There has been a lot of speculation about whether Sen. Specter's switch
from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party will change the equation
on immigration. A press release by immigration attorney Morley J. Nair
attempts to answer that question, but only proves that immigration lawyers
have way too much money to waste on superfluous press releases. Nair claims
that the switch puts the Democrats only 1 vote short of enough votes to
have a filibuster proof majority, and therefore Comprehensive Immigration
Reform (CIR) is almost a done deal. He is right about the voting block in
the Senate, but wrong about how Specter's switch of allegiance will change
the dynamics on immigration.
In short, Specter's action will have NO effect on CIR whatsoever, even if
amnesty is a done deal.
The reason? For starters, Sen. Specter votes the Democratic Party line on
all immigration issues. He is globalist who is pro amnesty, pro H-1B, pro
guest worker visas, and pro open borders. Switching parties will not affect
how he votes.
Assuming all Democrats vote for amnesty, Specter's change won't change
anything, because he almost always votes for higher immigration. Take a
look at his miserable report card:

Specter is as bad as it gets on immigration. To give one of the most
hideous examples: In 2006 Specter became the primary sponsor of the
McCain/Kennedy amnesty bill. The new Specter bill became known as
Comprehensive Immigration reform or S. 2611. Specter's S2611 inherited the
SKIL bill -- a frightening escalation in the H-1B program and other guest
worker visas. Specter struck down all attempts to get rid of the SKIL
portion of 2611.
In reality, Obama already has a super majority in Congress because without
question at least a few Republicans like McCain will support new amnesties.
Specter doesn't change the equation at all.
For now, the only question about CIR is when the next attempt will be made
to pass it, and whether the Democrats in the House will follow the Senate
in support of it. There is nothing the Republicans can do to stop CIR if
the Democrats continue their monolithic enthusiasm for CIR.
There are rumblings on the amnesty front. The Senate Judiciary Committee,
will be conducting a hearing today, Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 2:00 PM
EST. The topic for the hearing is: "Comprehensive Immigration Reform in
2009, Can We Do It and How?" Link to the notice about this hearing with
this link. They have a webcast of this hearing online:
http://judiciary.senate.gov/hearings/hearing.cfm?id=3793
So, now allow me to speculate on why Specter had to change parties. He
knows that the Tea Party in his state represents the grass roots movement
to unseat him -- and he wants to run away from these angry voters as fast
as his arthritic joints can move! He acknowledges that he can't even win
his own Republican primary. One thing that he will never admit, and the
mass media will never publicize, is that Specter is in trouble because of
his support of increasing taxes and amnesty. Immigration, or the "3rd
Rail", is at the heart of Specter's problems. It's really that simple!

Senator Specter's Switching Of Party Affiliation Boosts Chances For
Immigration Reform Legislation
Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter's switching of party affiliation from
Republican to Democrat has brightened the chances for the long-awaited
Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) legislation, feels
Philadelphia-based immigration attorney Morley J. Nair.
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) April 29, 2009 -- Pennsylvania Senator Arlen
Specter's switching of party affiliation from Republican to Democrat has
brightened the chances for the long-awaited Comprehensive Immigration
Reform (CIR) legislation, feels Philadelphia-based immigration
(http://www.visaworks.com) attorney Morley J. Nair.
"This has put the Democratic party closer to the votes needed to overcome a
possible Republican filibuster and pass this important legislation,"
Attorney Nair said. "With the possible confirmation of a Democratic victory
in Minnesota's long-disputed election, the party will have the needed 60
votes which would also help President Obama's legislative agenda as a
whole."
It may be pointed that a bill was introduced in the 110th Congress to
provide legal status and a path to citizenship to the country's
approximately 12 million undocument immigrants. Though the bill was
portrayed as a compromise, it attracted vehement criticism from both sides
of the divide. After losing the last vote on cloture by 34-61, the bill was
later revived through a bipartisan deal by the Senate leaders. But it
eventually suffered a crushing defeat on June 28, 2007 when the Senate
voted 53 to 46 against a motion to end debate and move toward final passage
of the legislation. The support was 14 votes short of the 60 required to
close the debate.
Lately, there has been a lot of interesting discussion across the media on
how immigrants, both skilled and unskilled, help the country's economy. It
has been argued that immigrant workers are vital for the U.S. to continue
to lead and succeed in the new era of technological advances and
innovation. Immigrants are seen as an essential element to the country's
speedy recovery from recession.
The Law Offices of Morley J. Nair (http://www.visaworks.com), the
immigration law firm founded by Attorney Nair, has been in existence for
about 12 years, and has a track record of processing hundreds of permanent
residence (http://www.visaworks.com/green_card.php) (popularly known as
"Green Card") cases and thousands of H-1B visa
(http://www.h1bplanet.com/h1b-basics.php) petitions, on behalf of both
corporate and individual clients all over the US.
Attorney Nair pointed out that hopes about immigration reforms have soared
with the historic election of President Obama. Coupled with this, there was
a recent announcement by the nation's top two labor unions backing the
legalization of the nation's millions of undocumented immigrants. "Let us
all be optimistic about the much-awaited immigration reform legislation
becoming a reality sooner than later," he concluded.

What's Next For Tea Party Movement?
By Lowman S. Henry, For The Bulletin
Published:
Thursday, April 23, 2009
Millions of Americans turned out, some in pouring rain, on April 15 -- Tax
Day -- to protest the big spending ways of Washington. It was a legitimate,
spontaneous grassroots uprising the likes of which the nation has seldom
seen, except perhaps in opposition to a foreign war.
The nearly $1 trillion "stimulus" bill, rapid expansion of the government
control into the private sector and the massive piling up of debt have
combined to shock the middle class into action.
The mainstream news media by and large tried to ignore the Tax Day tea
parties. But conservative media, such as Fox News and talk radio along
with a more sophisticated online presence, revealed the breath, depth and
extent of the tea party movement. It was real America -- the folks who
actually work, produce and drive our economy -- taking the first steps
toward reclaiming control of a government that has fallen into the hands of
a socialist regime.
And the Obama administration, at least publically, seemed not to care.
Apart from the abiding arrogance that is the hallmark of the new
presidency, the administration need not care too much -- at least not yet
-- because the protest is as much against Republicans as it is against
them. The fact is both parties have broken the sacred trust we the people
put in them to run our government, and neither has done much to restore
confidence in their ability to lead.
A good example of this can be found right here in Penn’s woods. At the
same time as protesters were taking to the streets, largely spurred to
action by the stimulus bill, the leader of the Republican Senatorial
campaign committee was proclaiming his support for the wayward GOP senator
who made passage of the pork-laden legislation possible.
After all Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives had
voted against the stimulus bill, U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter was one of three
Republicans who joined with Democrats to pass the legislation through the
upper chamber. His decisive vote ignited a firestorm among the party’s
grassroots, particularly in Pennsylvania. Not only has Mr. Specter been
vilified by protesters, his apostasy prompted former Congressman Pat Toomey
to enter the upcoming primary election against Mr. Specter. Mr. Toomey
nearly defeated Mr. Specter five years ago, and entered the race with a
wide lead in the polls over the incumbent.
On April 15, as protesters took to the streets, two other events converged:
Mr. Toomey officially announced his candidacy, and U.S. Sen. John Cornyn,
R-Texas, announced the Senate Republican Campaign Committee (SRCC) would
back Mr. Specter in that race.
Such political tone deafness is the reason why the GOP has gone from a
majority to a decided minority in both houses of the national legislature.
Ignoring the tea party protests, Mr. Cornyn opted to place protecting a
member of the club over listening to the grassroots.
Meanwhile, back in the Keystone state, Republican State Committee Chairman
Rob Gleason offered up yet another example of why his party is on the
ropes. With the base of the Pennsylvania GOP in uproar over Mr. Specter
and his stimulus vote, Mr. Gleason decided to attend a fundraiser on behalf
of the wayward senator at the home of Elsie Hillman, a leading pro-abortion
activist who formerly served on the Republican National Committee.
In one fell swoop, Mr. Gleason managed to offend two GOP core
constituencies at the same time: pro-lifers and fiscal conservatives.
I spoke last week to a Republican congressman from Pennsylvania who told me
it was absolutely essential the GOP harness the energy of the tea party
movement to invigorate it at the grassroots level. But, not only was there
no outreach from the party at the tea party events, party leaders like
Messrs. Cornyn and Gleason went out of their way to alienate the very
people they need to rebuild their depleted grassroots ranks.
The congressman was, of course, absolutely correct in his assessment of the
situation. Let me add that as much as the Republican Party needs the tea
party protesters, the tea party protesters need the Republican Party. The
GOP is the only vehicle capable of channeling the outrage into political
action that will result in real change in Congress.
The problem is the actions of party leaders like Messrs. Cornyn and Gleason
only serve to drive a wedge between the official party and millions of
potential new members who could inject a much-needed burst of energy and
enthusiasm into the ailing elephant. Barack Obama realizes this, which is
why at least for now he really isn’t all that concerned.
